Yep, as the other answerer said, you need to look in to medicaid.

Your fiance and yourself most likely aren’t your parent’s primary concern. Insure the baby, and worry about yourselves later. There is no such thing as inexpensive family coverage. It will cost you a few hundred a month at minimum.

**If this matter is so urgent, why is your fiance leaving his current job so close to the insurance start date and forcing the clock to begin anew some place else?

Try medicaid. My baby is on it and I am on it from the pregnancy and I am married. It goes by household income, not weather or not you are married or single.Wont hurt to ask. Then go get married and be a happy family.

because the boy is a minor he has to be covered by his parents until 18 and no one is gonna cover you until you are married/ you can get insurance for you and the baby but not him without a marriage license

Call the university your fiance is going to be attending and ask about their plan. If its a state school they most likely require students to have insurance and offer fairly affordable rates (at least for him). When I was in school it was about $ 500 per semester for the student, and then a spouse (you would have to married to get it) and a child would be another $ 1500 or so per semester, and my school’s plan was a very good plan.

If he’s not going to have an employer sponsored plan, then your left with individual plans. This is the type we have for our family because my husband is self-employed. The major players with the best reputations are Blue Cross and Blue Shield. http://www.bcbs.com/coverage/find/plan/ Understand that when it comes to individual coverage good and inexpensive don’t usually exist in the same sentence. You’ll just need to weigh your needs against the different plans to get a rate that you can afford. For example, with a new baby you’ll want a plan that covers well baby checks since she’ll have about 6 in the first year. If you’re going to have more kids then you’ll need a plan that covers maternity. You may choose to have a higher deductible if you can save up enough in a bank account to cover a high deductible (we have a $ 5000 individual $ 10000 family deductible, so that helps keep premiums down). Insurance plans can be very confusing so you may want to find a representative that you can meet with in person to go over things rather than just do everything online. It sounds like your parents are also good at planning for these things so use them as a resource in deciding which option is best for you.
