Soliant Health, the healthcare staffing unit of MPS Group, Inc. (NYSE:MPS), announced that its Bilingual Therapies unit will host a symposium for practicing bilingual and monolingual speech-language pathologists (SLPs) in San Juan, Puerto Rico, July 16-18. This will be the ninth annual symposium and the only one of its kind dedicated to helping bilingual and monolingual SLPs better serve the needs of bilingual children.
The primary goal of the symposium is to supplement the practicing speech-language pathologists’ knowledge base using current research combined with practical application. Each attendee will have the opportunity to participate in multiple, two-hour sessions given by the field’s most respected academic leaders with topics including:
* Dominance and Bilingual Phonological Development
* Evidence-Based Practices in Treating ELL/LLD Students
* Collaboration Between Bilingual SLPs and Other Professionals
* Linking Research and Practice in Language Assessment of Second Language Learners
* Bilingualism and Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI): Diagnosis and Management of School Re-Entry
“Speech-language pathologists, both bilingual and monolingual, have the opportunity to discuss current trends and practices and explore current research,” stated David Alexander, president of Soliant Health. “The Bilingual Symposium was designed to foster greater interaction, help SLPs strengthen their skill sets, and enrich the lives of people in the communities in which they work.”
