Florida Health Insurance — Consultant Examines Biden Health Insurance Plan

Posted by admin in September 3rd 2010

Joe Biden FLORIDA

Jacksonville, FL (PRWEB) October 29, 2007

Florida Health Insurance Web highlights Joe Biden’s health insurance plan in their latest edition of ‘ELECTION 2008′. Moran said “the upcoming presidential race will have a huge impact on the State of Florida”. After the election, the state’s health insurance benefits, and rates, may change substantially . Morgan Moran in a phone interview said the “Biden campaign is backing SCHIP, opening federal health-care insurance options to the general public” and allowing people to buy in to Medicare at age 55. Biden, a U.S. senator from Delaware, feels that “no value that is more cherished by the American people than protecting our children.”

Joe Biden is the latest candidate to talk about health care on the campaign trail. Speaking at the Families USA Health Care Forum, Biden said, “national health insurance is needed for America to be competitive in the global economy. Biden raked the Republican presidential field for not focusing on health care plans in their campaigns, calling them ‘Bush clones’ on the issue of health care.

“Biden’s plan is not a universal health-care plan,” emphasized Moran, but is actually “a way for employers to more easily provide health care.” The plan has four parts: (1) Cover all Children; (2) Access for Adults; (3) Reinsurance For Catastrophic Cases; (4) Encouraging Prevention and Modernization. Health insurance companies would not be required to pay for anything above ,000 for catastrophic injuries or illnesses; the government would pay the rest.

The Florida insurance consultant said “Biden differs from the rest of the Democratic field because he does not require mandates.” By bringing in catastrophic health insurance, Biden says he believes he keeps employers wanting to stay involved (since 60 percent of Americans covered are covered by their business) and health insurance costs lower for the American public.

Like Senator Clinton’s plan, Biden said illegal immigrants would not be covered. “No undocumented alien would be covered under what I propose here,” Like many of his Democratic rivals, Biden’s plan costs between billion and 0 billion: billion for catastrophic health insurance; billion more for SCHIP; billion to billion for sliding scale of access to federal employees’ health insurance; and billion to billion for those who want to buy into Medicare at age 55.

Health Savings Accounts–Affordable Health Insurance Option for the Self Insured and Self Employed

Posted by admin in September 3rd 2010

Plano, TX (PRWEB) January 5, 2006

Health Savings Accounts (HSAs), are a new way for the self employed and for individuals to obtain affordable health insurance. They also allow you to pay for your health, dental and vision care expenses with “pretax dollars.”

But they are not a good deal for everyone. Affordable health insurance expert Mike Chapman explains when and how Health Savings Accounts can help you save on health insurance and taxes.

Mike Chapman is a self-employed businessman with a family of six. He figures his health savings account and medical savings account have saved his family over ,000 in taxes and ,000 in lower health insurance premiums over the last four years.

Says Chapman, “I gambled when we opened our HSA that we could stay healthy. That helped us save on our health insurance premiums and invest it in our HSA. Every dollar we put in the HSA we took as a tax deduction. But if a family member had gotten ill, I don’t know how I would have met our insurance plan’s 00 deductible.”

“But now, we have enough in our HSA to cover health care emergencies, and it is growing tax-free like an IRA. Now we use it to pay for dentist checkups with pre-tax dollars.”

Chapman, the president of www.BenefitsBoutique.com, a nationwide online insurance agency specializing in affordable health insurance for the self employed, tells his clients when Health Savings Accounts and high deductible health plans make sense:

First, family members should be fairly healthy, requiring few doctor visits or meds on an ongoing basis. Families with infants might want to stick with a traditional plan that offers doctor visit and prescription copays that are absent in high deductible health insurance plans.

Second, you must be able to afford the risk of higher medical expenses for about a year and a half until you have enough money in your HSA.

The most important factor is that you must be a disciplined saver. Chapman recommends automatic contributions into an HSA, at least until there is enough in the account to cover the insurance plan’s deductible. “If you’re not a saver, then don’t bother with a HSA and high deductible health plan,”

No one health insurance plan fits all. But for the self employed, and especially older adults, HSAs are a great way to save on health insurance premiums and on taxes. “The older you are, the more you can save with one of these plans,” Chapman states. “We have clients in their 50s and 60s across the country who are not eligible for Medicare that this is the only way they can afford quality health insurance.”

Medflow EMR 7.1 Receives 08 CCHIT Certification

Posted by admin in September 3rd 2010

Charlotte, NC (PRWEB) August 8, 2009

The Certification Commission for Health Information Technology (CCHIT®) today announced that Medflow’s product Medflow EMR 7.1 is a CCHIT Certified® 08 Ambulatory EHR and meets the Certification Commission’s electronic health record (EHR) criteria for office-based use. Ambulatory EHRs are designed for physician offices and clinics where most Americans get their healthcare. The Commission – a private, nonprofit organization – is the Recognized Certification Body in the United States for certifying health information technology products.

“Two key new areas of interoperability are required to achieve 08 certification,” said Mark Leavitt, M.D., Ph.D., chair, CCHIT. “First, ambulatory EHRs must be capable of advanced electronic prescribing functions so physicians can qualify for bonuses under Medicare’s new incentive program. Second, EHRs must be able to send and receive an electronic patient summary. These and other new criteria will ensure that certified health IT products help improve quality, safety and efficiency while protecting the privacy of health information.”

In the third year of the program’s operation, the criteria and testing have been significantly updated again to provide physicians with more assurance that certified products will meet their needs for functionality, interoperability and security. The Commission added 19 criteria to the 200 required in 2007. Those changes were focused on the ability to exchange patient information with other systems. A CCHIT Certified 08 Ambulatory EHR ensures:

Additional electronic prescribing features: access to the patient’s medication history, formulary, and eligibility.
Better and safer medication dosing, adjusted for patient weight and other factors.
Better ability to prevent adverse reactions due to drug interactions or allergies.
Use of standard formats to exchange basic patient information for continuity of care.
Enhanced ability to view X-rays and other diagnostic images.
Better management of patient consents and authorizations.
Increased use of standard formats when receiving and storing laboratory results.

As a CCHIT Certified product, Medflow EMR 7.1 has been tested and passed inspection of 100 percent of these new criteria.

Jim Riggi, President and CEO, said, “Medflow has always been the industry leader in the delivery of EHR solutions to eye care professionals. Our first priority is to develop products that improve the quality of care our users provide to their patients.” “Medflow has a long history of promoting industry standards that protect the patient and improve care. We see CCHIT certification as an essential benchmark that should be used by clinical professionals to evaluate the quality of the software they use. We are proud to be a CCHIT certified EHR,” Jim adds.

The CCHIT Certified “seal of approval” for EHR products provides a consensus-based, government-recognized benchmark for ambulatory EHR products. By looking to products with the CCHIT Certified seal, physicians and other providers can reduce their risk in selecting an EHR product, allowing them to focus their evaluation on the special needs of their practices.
